Come to Savannah in springtime when everything’s in bloom.
In just over a two-hour flight, become surrounded by vibrant azalea bushes and climbing wisteria vines, which fill the many public squares in the revitalized landmark historic district of Savannah, Georgia. You can stroll hand in hand through these tree-lined streets for hours, mesmerized by beautiful houses with secret romantic gardens hidden behind intricate cast-iron gates.
If you want to get behind those gates, we recommend staying at The Dresser Palmer House, an historic inn in a true Southern mansion with a stately porch and private courtyard, and fireplaces and verandas in several rooms. The breakfast is outstanding, and the chef does a nice job of making you feel at home.
Spend your day leisurely exploring the storied streets and lush squares that connect them. Stop in for coffees at Gallery Espresso on the corner of Chippewa Square, the hub of the local artistic scene from the nearby Savannah College of Art and Design. Get your shopping fix and support the arts at Shop SCAD, where you can pick up an original souvenir that won’t end up in your closet.
A romantic dinner is a short walk away at the Bistro Savannah, tucked on a cobblestone street near the City Market and waterfront. Their menu changes regularly, but expect choice offerings like roast duck and seasonal vegetables. They don’t have a website, so we like to think of it as our little secret. Savannah has many opportunities for late-night reveling, but we think you’ll be happy just sipping some brandy out on your veranda and pondering the special charm of this little city.
